WSM Tower/Tower Park

WSM Radio Tower

The WSM AM radio station first broadcasted radio transmissions from Brentwood, TN in 1925. The WSM tower was built by Blaw-Knox Steel Co. in 1932. WSM is one of the most well know country music stations—the station plays country and bluegrass music every day and can be heard throughout most of North America. It helped popularize country music with the longest-running radio program ever…you might have heard of it….the Grand Ole Opry

The 808-foot transmitter tower in Brentwood was added to the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park service in the Engineering, Architecture, Communications, Music and Military categories in March 2011.
